Ruggy goodness.
I have too much random fabric. I need something useful to do with it aside from make my storage totes heavier. Or am I the only one who needs to weight down her totes so they don't float away.
I swear if they aren't full they fly away. This is my explanation anyway since whenever I need an empty tote there isn't one. I'm completely ignoring the fact that this is probably due to my filling them all with fabric. Shhhh... You're ignoring that too.
So, rag rugs are the answer. So far I've tried braiding, knitting, shag, and crochet. I'm liking the shag and knitted the best.
The first rug I made was crochet. It fell apart in the wash and needs a serious reworking. I might just rip it apart and start over. What I thought was a tight stitch ended up being rather flimsy upon being washed. Also the mix of woven and knit fabrics was a bad plan.
The 2nd one I made is still being made. I spilled coffee on it and never washed it. It's still sitting in it's project bag next to the washing machine. Like a year later.
The third one is also still being made. This is more due to laziness because I fell out of love with the design. Great in my head, not so fantabulous in actuality.
The 4th one is also still being made. Emma I really love you. It will outlive us all. Started with clothing. Stripped the clothing. Braided the strip. Knit the braid. NEVER AGAIN. Yeah right, I'll get that same mental block people get about giving birth. (It wasn't that painful. Maybe just one more)
The 5th rug is still being made. I'm making long strips of shag that I will attach together somehow. When I say shag please don't panic. Really it looks like quilting fabric uber fringe.
I also have a vintage 30's braided rug in a box w/ all its needed fabric. It's still sitting there.
And with this amazing history of rug making... I'm writing a book. Yes, I am actually insane.

I read your first sentence about having too much fabric and immediately said aloud, "Well, admitting you have a problem is the first step."
Mwah!
